Adult Ceramics

Thursday | 6:00 – 8:30 PM | Ages 18+ | Enrollment is limited to eight students.

This two-and-half-hour studio course explores clay as the most forgiving additive and subtractive artistic medium. Students are introduced to multiple hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Surface decoration and high-fire glazing will also be examined.

New Class Format! We will be extending our Adult Ceramics class in the Fall to an eight-week course. This allows our students the time to complete more in-depth, focused projects.

Eight-week Course: $240 per student (may be paid in installments if needed).

Course Syllabus
Week 1: Review terminology, tour studio, pinch pot/coil pot, soft slab (plates, bowls).
Week 2: Potter’s wheel.
Week 3: Trimming, handles, throwing/potter’s wheel refresher.
Week 4: Extruder (sets), prep hard slab box.
Week 5: Construct hard slab box, prep hard slab or coil sculpture.
Week 6: Construct hard slab or coil sculpture.
Week 7: Last day of wet work, sgraffito.
Week 8: Glaze, underglaze, stain.


Adult Advanced Ceramics

Tuesday | 6:00 – 8:30 PM |Ages 18+ | Enrollment is limited to 16 students.

This two-and-a-half-hour studio class is designed to further explore the ceramic skills learned in Adult Ceramics. Students will be introduced to more extensive hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Surface decoration and high-fire glazing will be expanded upon.

*Prerequisite: Adult Ceramics, or special permission from instructor.

Adult Scuplture

Tuesday | 1:00 – 3:00 PM | Ages 18+ | Enrollment is limited to eight students.

Come learn from sculptor, Stefania Ford as she examines the fine art of sculpture in clay. During this exciting eight-week course, students will examine several sculptural ceramic techniques, including coil building, hard and soft slab construction, and extrusion. Students will also get the opportunity to work from a live model, learning new techniques to portray the human body and facial features. If you already have a project in mind that you would like to explore in this class, please bring a sketch and/or photo reference with you to the first class.

Drying and firing time is approximately six weeks. Tools and clay will be provided, however students are welcome to bring their own.

Course Syllabus
Week 1: Review terminology, tour studio, pinch pot/coil pot, begin bust “Canvas” construction.
Week 2: Continue bust, begin facial features.
Week 3: Finish facial features, construct shoulders, hair, added details.
Week 4: Finish 1st sculpture. Surface decoration, slips/engobes/stains/underglaze.
Week 5: 1st day with model, Begin 2nd sculpture, measurements/angles/shape discussion.
Week 6: 2nd day with model, entire figure built.
Week 7: 3rd day with model, facial features on a small scale.
Week 8: 4th/final day with model, finish 2nd sculpture, slips/engobes/stains/underglaze.

 
  


Adult Fused Glass

Friday | 6:30 – 8:30 PM | Ages 18+ |Enrollment is limited to eight students.

Six Week Course: $260 per student*
Course 1: October 7, 14, 21, 28, November 4, 11
Course 2: December 2, 9, 16, 30, January 6, 13 (no class on December 23)
Course 3: February 3, 10, 17, 24, March 3, 10
Course 4: April 7, 14, 21, 28, May 5, 12

Course Syllabus
Week 1 : Review terminology, tour studio, fused glass, prep slump mold, load fuse kiln
Week 2: Become familiar with glass cutting, grinding, multiple part fusing/slumping
Week 3: Load slump kiln, explore images through enamels on glass
Week 4: Load slump kiln, explore images through frit on glass/copper inclusions
Week 5: Load slump kiln, explore casting techniques, clay positive and drop mold
Week 6: Load casting kiln, address slumping/drop mold technique, found bottle/upcycle

*course may be paid by month, in two installments of $140, with a total cost increase of $280. The course price remains $260 if paid in full
