Little Hands in Clay

Saturdays by appointment

Come with your little one and explore the magic created with clay during a half hour private lesson! Each lesson includes a handprint in clay, a pinch pot/coil pot, and a platter. All materials are non-toxic and child-friendly. This project is designed for ages 2-5 and a parent or adult must be present throughout the lesson.

Discovering Clay

Saturday
 10:00 – 11:00 AM
 | Ages 6 – 12
 | Enrollment is limited to 16 students.


Come discover and create in clay! This hour-long class lets children dig their hands into clay, learning several ways to sculpt hand-built masterpieces. All materials are non-toxic and child-friendly. Students may attend this class four times. After the fourth class, you may enroll in one of our other classes or be put on the waiting list. This insures that new students have the opportunity to experience a free introduction to clay.

1st Saturday of the month: Pinch pot/Coil pot

2nd Saturday of the month: Sculptures

3rd Saturday of the month: Fused Glass

4th Saturday of the month: Painting Day! (for all previously created clay work).

This class is FREE and open to the public. Space is limited, so call ahead to reserve your spot.

 


Youth Ceramics

Friday | 4:00 – 5:30 PM | Ages 8 – 14 | Enrollment is limited to eight students.
Students will learn to make both functional and sculptural ceramic work using various slab roller, pottery wheel and hand-building techniques. Surface decoration and high-fire glazing will be explored.

Four-class Monthly Course: $100 per student
September 2, 9, 16, 23

New Class Format! We will be extending our Youth Ceramics class in the Fall to an eight-week course. This allows our students the time to complete more in-depth, focused projects.

Eight-week Course: $200 per student (may be paid in installments if needed).
Course 1: September 30, October 7, 14, 21, 28, November 4, 11, 18
Course 2: December 2, 9, 16, (no class December 23), 30, January 6, 13, 20, 27
Course 3: February 3, 10, 17, 24, March 3, 10, 17, 24

Course Syllabus
Week 1: Review terminology, tour studio, pinch pot/coil pot, soft slab (plates, bowls).
Week 2: Potter’s wheel.
Week 3: Trimming, handles, throwing/potter’s wheel refresher.
Week 4: Extruder (sets), prep hard slab box.
Week 5: Construct hard slab box, prep hard slab or coil sculpture.
Week 6: Construct hard slab or coil sculpture.
Week 7: Last day of wet work, sgraffito.
Week 8: Glaze, underglaze, stain.


Advanced Youth Ceramics

Tuesday | 3:30 – 5:00 PM | Ages 10 – 16 | Enrollment is limited to 10 students.
Students expand upon basic pottery wheel and hand-building skills learned in our Youth Ceramics course. Prerequisite: Completion of Youth Ceramics and Instructor Permission.

Four-class Monthly Course: $100 per student

Youth Drawing

Thursday | 3:30 – 5:00 PM | Ages 8 – 14 | Enrollment is limited to eight students.
In this exciting course, students will traverse various drawing mediums and techniques, including pen, pencil, charcoal, and ink, still life, landscape, life drawing, and illustration. All materials will be provided.

New Class Format! We will be extending our Youth Drawing class in the Fall to an eight-week course. This allows our students the time to complete more in-depth, focused projects.

Youth Glass

Thursday | 3:30 – 5:00 PM | Ages 8 – 14 | Enrollment is limited to eight students.

Youth friendly, this introduction to warm glass includes two kiln-forming techniques: fusing and slumping. Students will be introduced to template designs, glass cutting, and glass molds to create various art pieces, including jewelry, window hangings, and functional ware such as vases and plates.

Four-class Monthly Course: $100 per student plus $20 materials fee

Course 1: November 3, 10, 17 (pro-rated course)
Course 2: February 2,9, 16, 23
Course 3: May 4, 11, 18, 25

*This course rotates with the Youth Drawing course.
